Riu Palace Tropical Bay Negril will not disappoint

My wife and I just returned from Jamaica where we stayed at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril. We've been to Jamaica in the past, but this was the first time in Negril. First and foremost- The people that work at this resort are Fantastic! They are friendly, outgoing and really go out of their way to make sure you're having a great vacation. Can't quite remember everyone's names because we met quite a few really great people. The few I do remember including Andre in the dining area, always making sure we had a nice table. Lady Phoenix and all the wonderful Entertainers who put on the entertainment from Sunrise to way - way past Sunset. The dancing, singing and just overall entertainment we saw was top notch! And Diamond for the nice conversation on the beach of just getting to know each other and the Jamaican way of life vs our way of life. Also, Jennifer, making sure our room was spotless and nice and comfortable when we came back from a long great day at the beach. Secondly, the beach...... three words- Turquois - Coconut Trees! Simply fantastic Beach! One day we saw a baby manta ray swimming near the shore and then a few days later we saw a huge manta ray swimming around 30 feet from shore. Simply amazing. The water is crystal clear. - Little to No seaweed Third, The food and drinks (not necessarily in that order) Be careful at the bar- that's all I can say. The Bob Marley shots we had during a passing thundershower one afternoon kind of set the tone for slightly overindulging in our alcohol consumption that day. ;) In all honesty, the bar tenders and servers around the pools and beach are super! The food court had a very nice selection of different entrees, meats, vegetables, sides, cheeses, fruits, desserts. Pretty standard buffet - there is a large assortment of food for every appetite. The Specialty Restaurants which require a reservation were also very nice and gave you a chance to enjoy a more intimate dinner experience. Just make sure you book using the app a few days beforehand. The room- We had an Oceanview Jr Suite which was perfect. We could see and hear the ocean but were back pretty far but that was just fine. Overall, The Riu Palace completely exceeded our expectations. The Resort is kept immaculate and everyone there is striving to make sure you have a great experience during your stay. The People are Fantastic! Beach is Fantastic! Entertainment was fantastic! Room was really Nice! Food was good Drinks were Good! Lots of Rum Punch and Red Stripe. Only negative would have to be the bugs (mosquitos) at night. Pack the bug spray with the sunscreen

    I love this place..simple

This was my 4th time staying at this hotel and again it was amazing. As i have stated in all my reviews i have stayed at a few of the other "top" hotels in this area and others and i have to say Riu Tropical Palace tops the lot. 1st reason is value, no other hotel comes close to offering the most value for your buck. The rooms are clean and neat, the staff as always are amazing...Derval in the dining hall along with Sam. Big shout out also to Beverly on reception who helped me out and went above and beyond to make sure i was happy. Ok lets break it down. Food: Foods good, buffet gets a bit boring after a 2 weeks or so but in general the food is of to a high standard 8/10 Beach: The beach is unreal, you will not find a better stretch along bloody bay, the hotel is right in the middle of the bay and water has the least grass out of all of them. The couples resort doesnt even have a better beach, RIU tops it. The water is super warm and the colour is amazing 10/10 Rooms: Rooms are cool, they do exactly what you expect them to do. Clean, tidy and very clean 9/10 Staff: Staff are unbelievable, across the board they are some of the best staff i have encountered. The manager of the steak house is the only rude one i encounter, every year he is rude but i just turn a blind eye towards him as the other 99.9% are perfect 9/10 If you want to stay in Negril and you want the best beach along with the best value for money this is the place to stay. If you can get a beach front, it enhances the experience ten fold. I will be returning in April and cant wait!! Room: 4215

Not as good as last time

Waited for almost 4 hours for our room after we checked in. Toilet kept running reported it twice before someone turned up after it was supposedly fixed it started leaking all over the floor reported that someone came and fixed it then it would not flush, reported that and it was fixed but again it kept running l fixed it myself by adjusting the filler hose so it did not interfere with the float. No eggs to order at breakfast time they were all made in mass. Went to 3 of the 4 specialty restaurants all was good except the second time we went to the Japanese restaurant the service was terrible waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for our meal and it was cold when it arrived

Nice beach……bad smell in room our rooms.

Best thing this resort has going for it is the stretch of beach it’s on. We found the rooms that we had, 4106 and 4206, though nicely appointed, had a VERY strong smell of mildew and sewage……to the point that it had permeated all of our clothes when I unpacked after returning home. We DID request to move, but we were told that no 2 rooms in our category were available for a few days. Someone WAS sent to fix the toilet that was not working in 4106, but our concern with the smell was pretty much blown off. So we dealt with it, closing the drains and doors to the toilet and showers at night, after spending all of the daytime on the beach. Entertaiment and buffet staff were great, but this location needs to work on mitigating problems such as these. They need to close these rooms and seriously investigate what I suspect is an ongoing plumbing issue.
