RIU is great but WATCH YOUR PURSE AT THE AIRPORT CORONA BAR
My husband and I have stayed at this resort 5 times and it is always nice. This time we came with another couple who had accompanied us to the RIU palace Pacifico previously. My main advice to start your trip to PVR… DONT STOP AT THE CORONA BAR OUTSIDE THE AIRPORT. MY FRIENDS PURSE WAS STOLEN FROM OUR TABLE WHILE WE WAITED FOR OUR TRANSPORTATION. This will put a serious damper on your trip. The purse had her passport , all credit cards and her jewelry. The thieves attempted to make changes immediately on the Cards. So if this happens to you do as she did cancel everything as fast as you can. They contact the consulate to get a new passport made so you can return home. These are professional thieves doing this. Don’t let you bags out of your sight for one second. The RIU palace experience was as nice as usual. We did have to request the liquor dispensers to be replaced in our room which was done right away. The service and food were great. We do regret that there is no longer a dress code (or age limit )requiring pants in the Japanese restaurant. We always look forward to more quiet and classy dinners at Kyoto and Krystal and that requirement seems to help with that. The beach is nice ( don’t expect blue water like the Caribbean ) the water is warm and there is no seaweed. The messages on the beach from outside vendors are excellent and run about $30 for an hour. Sometimes deals of less. There are horses for riding on the beach from many vendors and a sunset picture on a horse is a nice thing to get. The lobby bar is one of our favorite places and you can sit there and have waitress service. The piano player is amazing and there most nights. We had a very nice trip except for the stolen purse which will put a serious damper on things. Please watch your belongings. Especially at the airport. The Covid testing is well run snd doesn’t interfere much w your trip.
Overall, a Great Experience
We started out our stay disappointed, however our opinion was turned around by the end of the trip. The hotel lobby is quite beautiful, however we were a little surprised and disappointed how run-down the rooms and pool appear to be. The furniture in the room has torn fabric and the pillows on the bed are beyond their life and need to be replaced. The pool is also not a super-relaxing spot to hang out at as they just have plain plastic lounge chairs and not a lot of opportunities to find good shade. The pool is missing a lot of tiles, however they did have people working on that each night when we were there. We were on floor 1 right above the theater where they had their nightly music, so it was quite loud every night until around midnight. However...they keep the hotel meticulously clean. Our room may have shown a lot of wear and tear, but it was always very, very clean. Staff wherever you go in the hotel are friendly and accommodating. The food was much better than expected. Overall, I ended up being very pleased with our stay here. I know these are hard times, and I think staff went above and beyond to make our stay great.
36 of us came for 3 birthday’s we were all to have adjacent rooms & everyone on the same floor none of this happened we all had to get in line to change all our rooms took me 6 times going downstairs to finally get in, a couple of people had money missing from their rooms & my daughter refrigerator was absolutely bare they said they would come to fill it didn’t happen their channels except 2 were ALL Spanish, I know it’s Mexico, but 98% of their customers speak Spanish, they are uncaring and do nothing to accommodate you
Great, expected amazing.
My review is for 5 fun days stay. The ride to and from the hotel is beyond the control of the hotel, so I didn’t care too much about it. Tip, get a taxi outside the airport doors. It’ll cost you half the price. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are clean, and the so is the balcony and it’s chairs. Service is great have no complaints at all. The pool bar had the best tasting drinks. The hotel’s mixed drinks taste a little weird, like artificial sugar. That’s something I look forward to at resorts, I skipped out on them and just stuck to Palomas. There was no drink of the day and a little tiny drink menu. The pillows suck, the blanket isn’t cozy, it’s pretty used and not soft at all. I’ve been to over 6 different resorts and this one is the one the least engaging when it came to pool activities. There was bingo and aerobics. Another day aerobics and a trivia game. That was the pattern for the 5 days I was there. There was always lounge chairs available all around the pool. The umbrellas are mesh and provide the least shade. I saw a few guest put their towels over the umbrella for better coverage. The kids club is practically non existent. There’s a tiny tiny pool and a very tiny little playground. If you rely on the kids club for your kid’s entertainment and your salvation this is NOT for you. The message table is pretty damn close to the pool, one day they had aerobics right next to the message tables, if you’re looking for peace and quiet skip this and go to the third party message place that’s on the beach. Or get the messages early in the day. The pool has a lot of missing tiles, it’s only an aesthetic problem. It’s not painful or bothersome, also this was one of the dirtiest pools we’ve swam in. It’s not disgusting but you can see a lot of floating specs. I’d be concerned for my kids accidentally stalling the water. For this hotel only having ONE pool I definitely expected a much cleaner pool. The little top pool is cleaner. Both were good temperature, not too hot, not cold. The restrooms are near the pool and pretty much vacant. The shows were mediocre. Boring for kids, Michael Jackson and the elegance show were the most entertaining. After the showed they played music for about 30 minutes and that’s it as far as nightly entertainment. My husband and I came without our 5 kids, ages 4-16 to see if this would be a good place to bring them. It’s not. It has more of an adult ambiance. We won’t be coming back just because we know there’s better hotels for the same or about the same price. If you don’t care about any of the things a have negative comments on, then come here. We had fun but also had high expectations. Also the app crashes a lot. They really need to improve it especially since all your info is coming from the app. Oh and the room service has like 7 items to choose from, the sandwich being the best. And the mini is only stocked if you ask them to. The cleaning lady doesn’t do it.
Great experience, needs improvement
We visited the Riu Palace Pacifico and we had a great time. The food, the pool, customer service, everything was fine until we left the hotel. I know many people will not leave the hotel and maybe this review is not for you, but it's mainly for the hotel. the road that leads to the city is terrible, I mean, holes, deep holes, mud, horrible road. We had to go to the city twice and both taxi drivers said the same thing, "the road belongs to the hotel, it's a private road and they will not fix it." Puerto Vallarta has a lot of tourism, visitors, and there's no excuse as to why the road is that bad. If the road in fact belongs to the hotel, then they deserve a 1-star rating because that road reflects who you are as a company, and believe me, Riu is not a small company. Fix the road guys. It's bad. If you stay in the hotel the whole time you're there, then you will be just fine. But you'll see the road when you arrive or when you leave. Fix it.
