Fantastic Vacation / RUI Cancan Las America is Great
One of the best vacations ever. Hotel was world class and spotless. Great COVID 19 cleaning and checks in place. Food was great. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Beach was great for swimming and pools were fantastic.
I’m just returning from over 2 weeks at the resort and it’s the best place I’ve visited, the hotel was beautiful and clean, the staff was fantastic, the entertainment team was absolutely fantastic, especially Francesca, janella and pappy shampoo, there was one special lady who worked really hard to please everyone was called Madeline, she is a great credit to the hotel,I would highly recommend this resort and I’ll definitely be back.
Traveling in Times of Covid
I was very skeptical booking this trip due to the current uncertain times and did my fair share of research on hotels and their COVID-19 protocols. Review regarding cleanliness: Since the moment you walk-in it was like you were going through a human Car wash :) They sanitize your luggage, shoes, take your temperature and make sure you sanitize your hands. They explain about the app in which you see all the activities and evening dinner menus (which is also A+ for being environmentally friendly) and you are required to wear a mask all the time (with the exception of being at the pool and when eating). Staff were great at turning people away and not taking their orders if they walked up to the bar without a mask). Everytime you go eat - they make you wash your hands and take your temperature. Review regarding hotel: I have been to Cancun about 10 times - yet this was my first time at Riu Palace Las Americas and I think I have found my go to hotel! The food was great! Yes, there were some limited options and not all the restaurants were open everyday - but the hotel is only allowed (I believe) 30% occupancy - so when a business needs to work with aprox. 1/4 of the revenue they typically expect - limitations are expected - yet I think they still manage to do a great job! We got Santiago for 2 different dinner services and all his food recommendations were amazing! All staff where amazing and went above and beyond! The entertainment crew were fabulous and really what made my trip! Marco, was amazing and managed to get me to work out during vacation (which is nearly impossible). Those abs were not bad to look at either. Christian was such a sweetheart as well and always trying to engage with us. The pool bartenders (Bless them!) they were so hard working and always on it. Shout out to Adrian who kept my drinks coming! :) Overall - I would go back to this property in heartbeat!
All inclusive if you go to bed at 6pm.
I am currently staying here right now but will be checking out today after just one night of my expected 4 night stay. I am checking out early because this is nothing like I expected. I understand with COVID-19, this is a different world and maybe under normal circumstances, this resort would be a better choice but right now, I would not consider this hotel unless you don't mind being hungry, thirsty and don't mind a lack of services for the majority of your stay. First, there is only a couple of options to eat each day as most restaurants are closed and/or or only open during certain days/times. After 9pm, you really have no options. Before 7am, you really have no options. The swim-up bar is closed. The in-room beverage dispenser has been taken down. There is a bar at the main pool area that closes at 6pm. The lobby bar is closed. They do have service people walking around to get you drinks but that ends early evening. There is no place to go to after 6pm. The bars are all closed. There is some nightly entertainment at the "Stage" but the bar is closed inside that facility. The beach is extremely narrow and small and is full of seaweed (Sargassum) making t ugly, non-inviting and no one was going in the beach. The pool areas are very nice and for the most part, clean. The best part of this resort are the pools. However, they all close at 6pm and they kick everyone out at that time. From that point on, there is no where to go. There is no in-room service. The only place to eat is the main buffet until that closes and two restaurants that are open on different days and times. In the morning for example, if you want breakfast, your only choice is the buffet. The food at the buffet is not very good and get's old very fast. You can't order in-room service. There is one lobby area that is open 24 hours a day but this is just a small area with snacks you would never eat and a coffee machine. The other "cafe"' that is suppose to be open 24 hours a day was not open in the morning. There is no coffee machine in your room. They do stock the mini-fridge. The coffee that is served comes in small dixi cups so you would need about 10 of them to get a real cup of coffee. The first day here the water was turned off for a short period of time and from that point forward, the water came out brown out of our sink and shower. I was going to stay for 4 nights but checked out after the first night and moved to a different hotel. What I don't understand is that other hotels had the swim-up bar open, all restaurants were open and many other choices of bars to go to some of which stay open 24 hours a day. So not sure why this hotel is different. In short, right now this is not a resort to stay at unless you just want to relax at a pool area for the day and then go to bed after 6pm. The services they advertise on the website are just not open or operating right now. There are much better choices for your money. I will say the waiters at the pool area where very hard working and always trying to please you. Everyone is also very nice with the exception of a few staff. Publo at the front desk was very helpful.
The resort is in good condition and clean, but has a very unpleasant musty smell. The service in the specialty restaurants is horrible, the customer service and the wait for a beeper and the table is desperate. The chief of service by name Tomas does not have good manners when dealing with the public. The food lacks quality and there are few dining options at the resort. In the lobby they turn off the light at 12am every night and not even politely inform you that they will. The alcoholic beverage service ends at 12am, something I don't understand should be until at least 2am. In the entire hotel there is only one small place that is open 24 hours with a horrible meal for snacks and the same always. The rest of the hotel remains completely off after midnight. I will never stay at any RIU resort again.
