RIU Does Some Impressing in Montego Bay
My wife and I met 3 other couples at this hotel for a family member's 60th birthday. First of all, may I say that I'm not a water guy but live 900 feet from an Atlantic Beach in Florida, am a vegetarian and only drink alcohol in very little quantities. Therefore, I'm not like most guests and was even different from the other 7 in our party. So, during the day, I mostly stayed in the room. What was great about that was there was a whirlpool tub (surprise) and great WIFI (essential for me). However, the tub had to be repaired to use it properly (and they never did get it right for the week that we were there). Also, because I was in the room a lot, housekeeping was spotty - a number of days never. Food - Buffet and Italian restaurant were very good. The other specialty restaurants were passable at best. Entertainment - The Steel Drum band was excellent. Michael Jackson was not up to par as a whole but the dancing was good. The Neon Party you can have. One of the greatest things about staying at RIU Palace is that it is in the middle of 3 properties, and by staying at Palace you can also go to the other buffets and entertainment. However, the Palace Buffet is the best in our opinion, but the other buffets have larger selections because the hotels are bigger. We also got to see The Steel Drum band a second time at one of the other properties. One special area for us was the coffee bar behind the main lobby bar. It was excellent and primarily because Kimberley, the person who runs it 6 days a week, is excellent. (Our best employee encounter, although the front desk was very helpful and employees in general were great.) Smoking - if you are not a smoker, this is good because smoking areas are very limited. That said, I enjoy a good cigar late at night, and the smoking areas are limited even then. All-in-All, my 1st stay at a RIU hotel was good and you might even like it better if you are a water person. The WIFI, room whirlpool tub, food and options for night entertainment were highlights. I was surprised that there were no outdoor hot tubs or fire pits and I would recommend they be added. Also, if you included candy bars in the nice in-room refrigerator, you might save money on buffet trips. Previous to knowing about RIU, we had booked a stay at RIU London in June. Now I can stay, I'm no longer apprehensive about it, but actually looking forward to it!

A great time at a great resort.
We had a wonderful time. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were very clean. The resort was very clean. We requested an update to our room and had no trouble at all getting the room we liked. The only thing we were disappointed in is we couldn't get into any restaurants other than the buffet. We will definitely stay at a RIU resort again.

Very relaxing.
The staff is excellent. They clean all the time. We love the RIU buffets. It is nice to take your time and not be hurried. We find that the restaurants that need reservations we feel rushed. We did go to steak and Italian restaurants and both were very good. The house wine is better in the restaurants.

Fun place
Only 15 minutes from the airport, really enjoyed our 2 weeks, food was really good, buffet and speciality restaurants all good. Rooms spotless and had everything you need. Though it is the quietest of the 3 hotels the pool can get quite noisy after about 3pm, but didn't spoil our holiday, All the staff were great. Entertainment team superb, will stay again.
