My fiancé and i had a wonderful time here. Although strict COVID protocols are in place, everything , and i mean everything was perfect. We were absolutely pleased with the service that was provided during our stay.
We just returned from a long weekend in Montego Bay Jamaica and I can not say enough positive things about our stay here at the Riu Palace. The riu staff was amazing from check in to check out. The staff made the check in process extremely easy and someone handed us a drink as soon as we arrived :-) Rasheed at the front desk was especially helpful and accommodating with making sure that our needs were met. Even with closures we had plenty to do and delicious food to choose from. The staff went above and beyond to cater to our needs. The grounds are beautiful and most importantly very clean. Staff wore mask in every area of the hotel and cleaned throughout the day. I never once felt uncomfortable during this trip. I will definitely be returning!!!
My experience was amazing i had the most wonderful time with my friends, But most of all special shout out clarke from front desk, osborne from breakfast team, oshene & toni from entertainment, especially my favorite guys federico and Ian from the bar staff you guys made my vacation awesome even thou there was covid you guys made me feel at home and because of that i will be back in april....toodles...."you guys need a raise".
Escaped to Jamaica
Arrived on Jan. 16th for an 8 night stay. My trip has been pleasant but not extraordinary. The staff here are awesome and they come around the pool and beach on a very regular basis to see if you need drinks. Hand sanitizing and masks are strictly enforced. The staff ALWAYS had masks on and could be seen using hand sanitizer often. Guests can’t enter the restaurants without hand sanitizer and having your temperature taken. By the pool you can remove your mask one you are seated, or if you are in the pool or ocean. The restaurants have been closed for the most part. I ate at two of the four specialty restaurants... but if you aren’t there IMMEDIATELY when they open you will either have at least an hour wait or potentially won’t get in at all. The buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with indoor seating only available during dinner. The buffet breakfast is good quality and had number of choices. They have a made to order egg station and a good assortment of other hot breakfast options. The food is served to you ... so they are the only ones to touch the serving utensils. Lunch at the buffet always has the most awesome jerk chicken that is seasoned but not spicy. There is a choice of a spicy or a sweet sauce that can be put on top if desired. There are also burgers, pizza, made to order pasta, a variety of meats and sides. There is also a salad bar with many options. Dinner buffet has pizza, pasta made to order along with a number of pre-made (lasagne, cannelloni, ravioli). There is a nice selection of chicken, beef pork and seafood every night. As with lunch there is a salad bar but there is also an ethnic area that has Jamaican and Asian dishes. To round things out there are pre-made fruit plates, cheese plates and dessert plates. The rooms are well suited for a couple traveling together, but I would ensure you know in advance that the layout of the room provides no privacy. Be sure to stay with someone you are comfortable seeing you naked, and in the shower or bath. The rooms are “open concept” with the tub, washing area and shower all visible from every corner of the room. The toilet is enclosed in its own small space behind a locking door. For the life of me I was not able to regulate the temperature in my room. Setting the thermostat warmer or colder had no effect. Due to COVID there are no robes, slippers, coffee maker, kettle, liquor, water, soft drinks or lotion in the rooms. There is also no room service. You can get free bottled water at the front desk. I can understand not having things in the room that can’t be easily cleaned between guests ... like the liquor and beverages in the fridge. I don’t understand no robes as they are laundered ... just as the towels and linens are. Slippers are yours to keep. The coffee maker and kettle ... sanitize it and it is good to go. The other thing to note is that you can’t have breakfast or dinner at the other two RIU hotels that sit on either side of the Palace. You can use their facilities, pools, beaches, drink their liquor and have buffet lunch ... but you can’t make use of all the restaurants. That was a big disappointment. The RIU Reggae is closed due to low numbers of guests. Those guests appear to be accommodated at the Palace. I would return here for the price I paid, but I wouldn’t pay more given the limited options currently in place. If you are expecting to have more than the buffet you may be disappointed. Once COVID is past I can see this being an awesome resort.
First trip to Jamaica
When we arrived there was someone there to take our bags and give us some hand sanitizer before walking to the temperature monitor. Right after there was a lady who provided us with a cool towel for us to cool off. (Loved it!) the check-in was pretty simple and easy. They sanitize your bags before they bring them to your room! We got there right before lunch was over, so we grabbed a bite and it was delicious. We went to our room where our bags were supposed to come up behind us. but it had been a while so I had to call after about 30-40 minutes for the gentleman to bring up our luggage. However, the room was nice and the view was exceptional. You can tell some areas needed improvement but it was clean. The bars weren’t stocked because of covid so that is something to be mindful of. We had a jacuzzi on our balcony and in the room but one of the nights the water was Luke warm so it was hard to enjoy it. I waiting on a blanket for over an hour one night because there was none in the closet. The front desk staff wasn’t most helpful at first. But I made my presence known and things looked up. They press for you to utilize the RIU app, (IT WAS NOT EFFECTIVE AT ALL.) I shared that with management as well. I will say that all of the serving staff provided exceptional service. They remembered our names and our drinks. (My bf loved that part the most) lol I will say out of all the Riu’s that may be the only one I would want to go back to. Riu Montego Bay staff were rude when we dined there one day for lunch. Riu Reggae the lady was upset I didn’t finish my food but I was given more than I expected and I only went to see if they had a different spread. So, I would be hesitant to book at the others based on that experience. I’ll likely see you guys again soon because my bf wants to celebrate his birthday there again. ☺️ Cons: The specialty restaurants were rarely open
