Cousins Trip to Cabo
Came here with my sister and our cousin for a 5-day, 4-night stay over Memorial Day Weekend. We had booked a Grande Junior Suite with three beds. We got an obstructed view of the ocean from our balcony and a nice view of the grounds. We were welcomed with mimosas at check-in, and they allowed us to check-in a tad early (around 2:30 p.m. - official check-in is at 3 p.m.) which was nice. We had help with our luggage. At check-in, everything was explained to us, and we were given a pamphlet which had a map of the resort as well as the hours of all bars and restaurants which was super helpful. We ended up eating 99% of our meals at Promenade, the buffet after our first night eating at Guacamole, the steakhouse. My sister and I both got the salmon, which was not too bad but nothing special either. The potatoes were perfect - I wish we had more of those. The portions of vegetables were tiny. My cousin got the chicken, which she said was the driest dark meat she's ever had. The Promenade was much better. Breakfast: get the pozole. My sister said it was really good. Another guest we ran into agreed. Lunch and dinner: go to the Mexican cooking station. This was where we mostly got our food from since it was the best option. In the 5 days, we tried: cochinita pibil, carne asada, pollo, pescado, and birria. My personal favorites (in order) were: pescado (this was a crowd favorite when they were fresh out of the fryer), birria, cochinia pibil, and carne asada. The green and red salsas were perfectly spicy. The chile oil was even spicier - use sparingly! I loved that there was always fresh guacamole and chips too. To drink, I usually had an agua fresca. It changed periodically - there was cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, papaya, and mango when we went. The watermelon was my favorite. We couldn't figure out if they were from a box or fresh, but the watermelon had pulp...jury is out. If you have dietary restrictions, they had a vegetarian station and pescatarian station. Outside of that, it's not the best. They had a tiny gluten-free station with Bob's Red Mill granola and some chocolate chip cookies but not much else. Cooked vegetables were hit or miss. Some days they had mixed vegetable skewers and roasted broccoli, other times the salad bar was the best bet. The fresh fruit was always great - the pineapple was consistently good. You won't go hungry since there is always something open. If Promenade is closed, Pepe's by the towel stand is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for poolside eats (burgers, hot dogs, nachos, and tacos plus the agua fresca of the day). The coffee shop has pastries in the morning and sandwiches in the afternoon. At the pool, you can choose from loungers with an umbrella or to the side, covered ones (and they can be uncovered/covered from either direction in case the person next to you wants to sunbathe and you don't) which were also included. We mostly stuck to the covered area. We never needed to reserve a lounger (there is also a sign that says not to do that) - we always found three loungers next to each other in the covered area each day. Taxis are $14 to the main town, or $17 to the marina (one-way). The main town has the same souvenirs in the gift shop for much less. Be sure to sign up for the Riu Class account, since that will get you a free airport transfer. Otherwise it's $12/person. We only had to wait maybe 15-20 minutes upon arrival for the white van and for going back to the airport, they time it so you are at the airport 3 hours before international departures and 2.5 hours for domestic. Be sure to ask for the top shelf liquors - they are included - otherwise they will use well liquor. Didn't learn this until the day we were leaving that we could have been drinking Patron!! Staff shout-outs: Samuel at the lobby area was super friendly and helpful, as was Victor in the main pool area serving drinks. Overall, the staff was friendly (it helps that we spoke a little Spanish). It doesn't seem like many people tip at this resort but we tried to tip as best as we could. Riu Palace Baja seems great for groups (families, couple friends, and friends) but not very romantic for a couple.

Great Vacation
Food was great, excellent service. the view is spectacular. Nice place to relax. It was my friend birthday we decided to go to Riu Baja no regret. If you’re planning your next vacation. Don’t think twice, book it go now and reserve your spot.

Quality is bad
Service sucks. Most employees are unhappy.. it's good if you like quanity and don't care much about service and quality. Personally, I will never again will I waste my time..rather spend a few more bucks. I got their suit supposedly.

Don’t stay if you want to sleep
Because you get zero sleep. The food is ok at best. You have to keep your back to the beach so the peddlers stop trying to get your attention. We enjoy the night life and like to drink and party but also like our sleep. The hotel is clean. The staff is friendly.

Great food, great atmosphere, stunning waves and location!
I have heard many stories of the Riu properties being not great unless you're a party animal but I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely this resort was. We stayed for five days over Memorial Day weekend at the Adults Only Baja California resort and I would stay here again. The room was large and well-stocked with beer, soft drinks, and water. We also had nice fluffy towels! I would say the pillows aren't the greatest but nothing awful, may just need to request a few extra. The food was really good, even at the buffet for breakfast and lunch. I enjoyed the wide variety and the quality was excellent. Drinks were great, and we really enjoyed the pool bar with Daniel the bartender. We ate at the steakhouse, the japanese fusion, and the italian and all three restaurants were delicious, high quality, and the service was wonderful. The people here at this resort really know how to make you feel welcome and at home. We were also able to walk into town along the beach, not a short walk, but doable. The uber back to the hotel was $5 from the Marina. This would be a great resort for a group of friends and I will probably come back with a group next time. It's maybe not the best if you're a quiet couple looking for some quiet pool time. :)
