Second trip and still amazing
This week, while working from home, my family was reflecting on our trip last May/June 2019 to Paradisus La Esmeralda and I felt like I needed to write a long overdue review. That was our second family trip to this resort and just like our first trip, the second time did not disappoint at all. I feel bad for writing this review a year late but our experience was nothing but spectacular. The resort was about an hour drive from the airport. We stayed in the family section which is definitely a recommendation if you have young children. The room a was beautiful, clean and quiet. The pool is just for people staying in that section and was steps away from our room. The pool has a swim up bar, is right next to the restaurant Olio and is a lot less crowded than the other pools. Demetrio and Alejandro from Olio were incredible. All the staff at the pool and swim up bar were great. I wish I could remember everyone's names, who we encountered at the resort, but there were way too many. I can't brag enough about Caesar, our personal concierge and all he did for our family. He even picked up some hot sauce for us, outside the resort on his way home, that we couldn't find anywhere. He was great with the kids and so personable. The water park was a GREAT addition to the resort that was not there 4 years ago when we first came. Our only minor complaints were that at the time there was so much seaweed that the beach was almost unusable. This was of no fault of the resort and they did their best to clean the sand every morning with a front end loader. The other thing was at the family pool the Bahama beds were free when we went there in 2016 and now they are only available for a fee. It wasn't cheap but not a deal breaker at all. We did pay for it a couple of times but it was a nice perk when it was free. When we arrived, we were greeted with cool cloths and champagne. The person that drove us on the golf cart, the person who greeted us and the person that checked us in were all extremely polite and friendly. Every meal at every restaurant we ate at was excellent and we were there for 7 nights. The Brazilian steakhouse and hibachi were two of our favorites. Olio was our go to and Demetrio, who remembered us from our first trip, was absolutely incredible. Top notch friendly service, excellent food and always friendly service with a smile. By day two he already knew what drinks and food we all liked and most of the time it was in our hands without ordering. All in all I have to say that this is definitely our favorite family vacation spot and can't wait to go again next year.
Amazing family vacation with little ones
This is an incredible resort for families with kids. We came with our little ones and grandparents, and it was wonderful. I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the resort (restaurants, Esmeralda vs. Perla, amenities, gyms, Kids Club, etc) prior to coming to take full advantage! Positives: We did family concierge, mainly for the heated pool and snacks :) We didn't use the butler much. The other pools are also wonderful. FOOD: The food is wonderful - nothing super fancy (unless you venture to the Perla side), but definitely lots of options. Best to book your reservations ahead of time. The Market is a great place for breakfast and casual meals. Service is very accommodating and wonderful with kids. POOLS/WATER PARK: The water park is a wonderful addition! Super fun but gets crowded so get their early. The beach is so so - We preferred the numerous pools. The kids club is wonderful, although we didn't use it for childcare, just rainy day activities. PHOTOS: I loved their photos!! They offer a photo session for free and then you can buy the photos. The photographers are excellent with kids. Book early so you can get the time you want! SERVICE: Everyone is quite friendly and kind. Easy to get poolside refreshments. ENTERTAINMENT: I couldn't keep up! There is always something going on, for kids and adults. Best to look at the schedule ahead of time so you can see what you want! Things we did: face painting, cinco de mayo parade, live music nightly with dance parties for the little ones....There's so much! GYM: There is a small gym on the Esmeralda side and a HUGE one in Perla - both were excellent. Room for improvement: FOOD: The poolside snacks can be redundant (nachos, quesadillas, etc). I would like to see more and healthier options. ROOMING: We had 3 joined reservations and our rooms were across the resort from each other - It was almost a 6 min walk back and forth! I would have liked to see them put us closer together. SERVICE: They try to entice you to attend a talk for a membership to the Melia Circle with a 3d/4n voucher - it is a scam. You sit through the talk, then the voucher rates are higher than you would book online. Skip it unless you're actually interested in the program! Also, an easier system of towels would be nice; Currently, they give you plastic cards that you exchange for towels and have to keep track of. COTIs: There are wild animals that run the property and snatch your food. They seem harmless but I'd prefer not to have them around.
Best time at la esmeralda
This review is long overdue but I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to the staff at la esmeralda for creating an amazing experience for our family. We arrived just before the COVID craziness hit Canada. The staff made us feel so welcome and safe. We left the resort on the 21st of March and the resort was less than 10% occupied. Though it was eerie being at such an empty resort, the service we received was wonderful and again we were made to feel very welcome. Big shout outs to Dora on the volleyball court everyday at 11 - she made my daughter and I feel so welcome, all the wonderful bartenders - especially at the members pool where we spent the majority of our time, and Jose who was a fantastic concierge, our son was slightly obsessed with him! Best restaurants sushi and teppanyaki were amazing, as was the members restaurant where we ate lunch every day outside in beautiful Mexico. It’s a strange time to be writing a review, but I hope all of our friends on Mexico are doing ok at this time. We will be back to esmerlada for sure! With thanks, Davis family
March Family Trip
Our family of 4 ( 2 adults and a 2 and 3 year old) stayed here for a week in March. This was our 3rd visit. The kids love playing at the waterpark and beach area. We had great service and tried all the a la carte restaurants. Our favorite meal was at the Grille. Rocio, from Guest Services did a fantastic job of taking care of us during our stay and making sure any of our issues were resolved. We enjoyed breakfast at Olio and the fish tacos for lunch were very good. We look forward to hopefully returning.
