    Family trip

It was a great experience. Traveled with family and had a lot of fun. Ernesto and franklin made our trip amazing. Would recommend swim up suit to anyone with family.

Memorable stay at Paradisus Grand Cana

Stayed here June 7-June 14, 2025. Family of four. Two daughters graduate school age. Spacious accommodations is our first priority when picking a resort. We need at minimum two bedrooms and two baths. Paradisus Grand Cana delivered big time on that priority. We booked a two-bedroom, two-baths, family concierge, Master swim-up suite. Almost 3,000 square-feet of space. Good luck finding that elsewhere. Gorgeous resort. Exquisitely manicured grounds. In brand-new like condition. Massive main pool in the center with a swim-up bar. Several inner and outer ring swim-up pools, and a water park. That architecture results in a less crowded environment. Guests are spread out doing different things. The resort is not on the beach but it was not a show-stopper for us. A fleet of golf carts transport guests to the beach at regular intervals. You need only bring yourself, and perhaps some sunscreen. Chairs, towels, restaurant, etc.. await at the beach. I walked to the beach most of the time while my family got chauffeured ( 13 to 15 minute walk ). You see, I've got to get my daily steps in or my iWatch goes AI ballistic on me. Several restaurants here. Our resourceful and highly attentive concierge, Thaina Decire, booked our diners and concierge inclusive excursions. We tried Karnica, Tori, Machu, and Ruby Rocks with mixed family reviews. We found consensus with Origen and ended up sticking with it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Origen is an extravagant buffet restaurant. Even those with the most discerning palates will find something to their taste at Origen. Seaweed is an issue on the beach. Maybe it's the time of the year, but we found it to be a bit excessive. The high dollar resorts like Paradisus Grand Cana and the sister Melia resort right on the beach, Palma Real, keep the beach clean, but the seaweed is omnipresent in various degrees, and inescapable. Folks just ignore it and enjoy the emerald green waters. The vendors on the beach are at times relentless, but I guess folks have to make a living. I brought a pile of 5 dollar bills and I tipped regularly at the restaurants. I made a couple of girlfriends or two at Origen. After tipping a couple of times, the waitresses knew exactly what I wanted to drink. The coffee, milk, and mimosa were on the table by the time I sat down. Te quiero mi Corazón .Listen, you can always find something to complain about this resort, but you will need to try hard. The only complaint I have is that 7-night was too short.

    Could have been more!

This resort is beautiful, clean, and we had a nice time. I would give it a higher rating but a few things let it down. It’s a ‘family resort’ but the music being played by the activity associates was terrible. Sitting by the pool listening to cuss songs. Not to much to do for kids, they have 2 small pool tables but they are in a bar, table tennis table is down on the beach which is half a mile walk. No games room. The store on property is extremely expensive, $35 for a sunscreen. The suite we had, that we were encouraged to upgrade to, was nice. We had a family concierge but wasn’t worth the upgrade fee at all. Reservations are needed for the restaurants. Darlin and Marilyn at origens were fantastic. Kudos to them. Would go back but to a different resort.

    Nearly perfect minus rude concierge

My family stayed at the Paradisus Grand Cana for a week in June as our first experience out of the country with our children. Since it was a longer vacation, I was appreciative of the fact that the Paradisus was an all-suite hotel and I can honestly say our room was among the nicest I have ever had. It was very clean, spacious, and the balcony extends as part of the living area so we always had our glass doors slid open to enjoy the tropical breeze. We thoroughly enjoyed our room! The property has a great common pool, an amazing children's waterpark behind the hotel (with the NICEST employees, such as Obeidy Rodriguez who was SUCH a gem!!!) and there are also swim-out optional rooms, which we would have gotten had our travel agent mentioned those. The staff was also among the nicest we have met anywhere. Our servers Darlin, Andres and Pedro were always happy to see us and made our vacation so special. They decorated the table for my son's birthday and even brought out a cake. Marlin and Jose were also excellent, and Alexander made the BEST omelettes at the buffet. We left feeling like we were leaving behind family. Everything would have been a perfect experience but unfortunately there were a couple outliers that nearly ruined our trip. First of all - the resort blasts music throughout the property until 11 each night. Since this is a huge family resort, I was a little surprised. Our children couldn't fall asleep until the music was finished (even with the glass doors closed you could hear it pulsing through your room) so evenings were later than we would have liked. It also looks like the resort needs a little bit of work. The pool cabanas were for the taking but you had to be careful, because some of them were not secure and the bars holding the awning in place would flap around in the wind. However the worst part of our experience were the fake concierge type men who acted like they were there to help us, but really whose only agenda was to upgrade us to Circle by Melia members which involved some type of sales pitch that we kept saying no to. The first couple days when we said no the main guy would interrupt us and basically talked over us, emphasizing the benefits of Circle Membership and making it seem like it was a free deal. My husband finally agreed to a meeting but went solo, and when he showed up he was told that I had to be there as well which then turned him on to this being some type of sales pitch. We finally firmly said no again, but his sidekick approached us a couple days later and tried to guilt us into going again (we didn't). Part of sales is knowing when NO means NO - and these guys DO NOT CARE if you say no. They will keep hounding you and texting you on your WhatsApp, making you feel crazy unless you give in. Upon arriving, the main sales guy/fake concierge told us he would upgrade us to a dining experience in the "Mangu" restaurant which was for members only, and he made our reservation for Friday night which the reservations desk confirmed with me by sending me our reservations for the week. After we firmly denied the sales meeting a couple days later, I approached the reservations lady again because I wanted to switch one of our reservations and I was told that the Mangu reservation had been cancelled. It left us with no reservation for that Friday, and on top of it, it was too late to make a different reservation, so we had to eat at the buffet that night. The reservations lady told me "Mangu was closed" but when we walked by it on Friday, it was absolutely packed with people so I know that was a lie. Because they were so insistent and rude about us going to their meeting, it left a really sour taste in our mouths. In fact, we almost felt like NOT being a Circle member put you at a disadvantage because we could not get many other reservations that week, even for their basic non-member restaurants, so we ended up at the buffet more than we would have liked. Sadly, we would never come back to this resort given how pushy, rude and insistent the fake concierge/salesmen were. Anytime we saw them, which was always, it was a very uncomfortable experience that I wish we did not have - especially given the fact that even though we did not upgrade to the Circle membership, we still payed a small fortune to be there. By the way - a heads up from someone at our resort who DID attend the meeting, it's supposedly a $600/upgrade per person for premium liquor and some silly access to a members only lounge. It's also several hours long and they harass you until you feel that you need to sign up.
