FIRE FIRE FIRE
This place is still without power. Do not go here. There was a fire and they try to rip you off sending you to a down graded hotel. Absolutely ridiculous. No one told us where to go and nothing is being done. This seems to be a way for this property to not answer any questions and still keep everyone’s money. A fire didn’t make them call anyone to explain it.
Employees were the highlight
I just want to thank every single employee we met during our trip! Employees such as Edwin, Daniel, Lucas, and Josue made our trip extremely memorable! I miss them already! They were extremely kind and helped make mine and my friends' trip just that much better.
Great food, decent resort, beautiful beach, AMAZING staff!
We got married at Now Emerald on April 25, and it was nothing short of magical! Apologies in advance for a long review 😊 The most important thing to mention is that the staff is amazing. We were blown away by the level of service just about everywhere. Now Emerald isn’t "fancy", it's more casual. A few spots could use improvements. But the staff make it feel like a 5-diamond resort. Our wedding coordinator Faride Parroquin deserves all the credit in the world. It can be difficult when you’re only communicating via email, and can't be there to see things/talk in person. She was always responsive, answered my many questions, and gave us recommendations. When we met in person, it all clicked! She is so warm, fun, and kind - but more than that, she's an incredibly hard worker. She handled EVERYTHING for us. I had a very clear vision of our wedding, and she executed it perfectly. We could rave about her forever! We will be grateful to Faride for the rest of our lives. Our photos turned out amazing. If you get a chance to have Eunice take your picture on the beach, do it! The food was even better than when we were here in 2016. Cin Cin was great, but Spice and Tamarindo are not to be missed! Seriously, we could've eaten the sushi at Spice every night, with their fried ice cream for dinner. And the ceviche, chips & salsas at Tamarindo were fabulous. The Preferred Club upgrade seemed totally worth it, although it wasn't checked 100% of the time. But the beach, access to the preferred bar (and the snacks in there!) was awesome. Because it's a more casual resort, almost all our guests chose Preferred Club rooms with plunge pools or hot tubs. They could afford to really ball out on their rooms, and people loved it. The hot tub rooms in particular seemed awesome - they have knobs like a sink, where you get to choose the temperature, so friends did lots of lukewarm soaks on hot days. Our honeymoon suite seemed to be one of the only ones updated so far, eventually all the rooms should look like ours did. Most of the glasses you'd use are a tad small and plastic. We made personalized tumblers for everybody, stainless steel with straws. Staff were always happy to fill them for us, and they kept drinks super cold! So if you've got a stainless steel tumbler to drink from outside all day, highly recommend you bring it. Now for the people: Erick and Jonathan took fantastic care of our whole group when we were at their restaurants (and when we weren't). Yolanda and Alex down at the beach are fantastic! She would bring our drinks, and even lunch, whenever we needed them. Often remembered our order. As the bride and groom Alex treated us to the best seat on the beach for the last day of our trip, it was amazing. He also has a glasses cleaning solution that must be magic, it's that good! Yosmar at the Carnival buffet was awesome. Remembered our names and always waved and smiled, whether we were in his section or not. Leobardo was in the lobby bar and was our wedding bartender - he was wonderful! Knows his drinks. He made Blue Hawaiians for our whole group after our ceremony that people really loved. Again, we cannot thank the staff of Now Emerald enough. Whatever you think you want to bring to tip the staff, triple it. Not because they request it, but because they're worth it.
DO NOT GO HERE!
The hotel staff were great, but the hotel itself is AWFUL. Not only outdated, but very nasty and dirty, thereby I rate it a negative 10 (I'm being generous). There were huge splashes of what could've been coffee or vomit on the curtains leading to the balcony, the tub had a thick nasty ring around it, and also long strings of hair, the toilet seat was broken, so much so that the seat wouldn't go back, forcing you to bend forward, there were big rust stains on the side and in front. Paint and water dripped from the ceiling ion our room, and the chairs in the room and at check-in were filthy. The hallways on all floors were dank and dark. Although the doors looked as if they were recently painted white, they didn't cover the stains, and, some of them looked as if they've never been wiped clean). Food at ALL the restaurants were sparse, in one, we ordered lobster tacos for dinner, when they arrived, two tacos were in a 4 prong taco holder without any sides but was on a large plate. Another night, we ordered hot wings from room service, and when they arrived, it was 4 wing dings swimming in sauce. Breakfast buffets did not include fresh fruit, nor a good selection. Food was very bland, and again, sparse. At a 3rd restaurant we took a chance and ordered nachos, which consisted of stale chips, tomatoes, and it appeared as thought the meat wasn't even real meat! The hubby ordered a classic hotdog that turned out to be a mini weiner on an extra large hot dog bun with just catsup. Sections of the pool were badly rusted and the drinks were extremely watered down. We requested a room change and just got excuse after excuse and was never moved. Even the furniture at check-in was very badly stained. We stayed off property as much as possible. I can go on and on, but the bottom line is this was the worst hotel I've ever visited. Needless to say, we tried to make the best of it, given that it was hubby's birthday. We were so disgusted that we spent a majority of our time off property.
Needs Some Improvement
We are experienced travelers to many Cancun hotels. This hotel definitely needs improvement. When we checked in and walked into our room another couple was trying to get into our room. They had some how assigned our room to another couple after it was assigned to us. That couple left to get another room. Are room safe was not working and the bed side lamp had a broken broken prongs/wires and didn't work so we went to the front desk to get these fixed. When we came back to our room our keys didn't work. We had to go back to the front desk again to get the keys to work. In the mean time my husband had to wait in the room for 40 minutes for them to come fix the safe. The temperature in the room was good. The shower pressure was good, The pillows on the bed were lumpy the mattress was average. There was only one elevator working while we were there. The breakfast buffet omelet stations were very good. The pancakes and waffles were always cold. You had to wait quite awhile for someone to give you bacon, sausage, hash browns and some of the other dishes these were not self serve. It was inconsistent some dishes were self serve some weren't. At the lunch buffet the soups were good. The fish was good but there was very little variety. The Mexican was okay. The French restaurant was good one day and the next time we tried it the steaks were overcooked. The drink service was really good. Servers would come by often and ask what you would like. The beach chairs were hard plastic and not comfortable not many people sat on the beach. The night time shows were held outside and got rained out 2 of the days. There was no other entertainment in the lobby the sports bar was closed. The bar service did not start until 11:00 a.m. at any of the bars. We paid more for this hotel because it was ranked a five apple. It should be rated a three apple at best. We were disappointed because we have stayed at other hotels in this chain that were much better. I would not stay here again for the price they charge for this hotel, There are many other hotels that offer better entertainment and dining.
