Don't recommend, bad service
I've been to a half dozen resorts like this, and this one's at the bottom — while the price I paid is at the top. The cost and the experience don't match up here. The main issue is the servers are grouchy to the point of hostile. They treat you like you are an active threat to them for asking for a drink. It got to the point after 4 days there that we simply didn't order drinks because whether you're at the pool or at the bar, you're treated like a problem for asking. We were also reluctant to order because of how freaking long it takes to get one. If you're on the chairs by the pool and ask a server for a drink, expect a solid half hour before it gets back to you. If you're in a restaurant, a good fifteen minutes. The drinks are bad. This is one of 5 resorts along the beach we had access to, and Grand Bavaro is meant to be the best, but I've been to other resorts with a similar access-to-multiple-resorts-at-different-prices approach and Grand Bavaro would have been 3 out of 5. For example, if you're at the upper tier of a resort chain, you'd get cocktails made with fresh fruit instead of flavored syrups they serve at Grand Bavaro. The food doesn't match the 'upper tier' brand either. For lunch, every other resort I've visited has a big buffet in the main hall, then a smaller one closer to the pool with more limited options, and then a little cabana with burgers and hot dogs. This one didn't have the main hall buffet — the main serving hall was also shut down for dinner every other day — so lunch every day was practically the same food and low quality, served at the smaller restaurant. The majority of staff also speak very little English, and I had a couple of mixed up orders as a result. The resort is also *small.* The pool is small, it's not sprawling or winding or anything. The dinner restaurants are all packed next to each other in a row, one of them doesn't even have a bathroom in it. Upon checking out, there was no smile or thank you for staying with us, just 'all done.' I've been to a lot of all inclusive resorts, I know what you're meant to get based on what you pay, I know how to adjust my expectations based on cost. This place charges too much and gives you too little.
Our dream holiday of a lifetime
Everything about this place is fantastic from the colonial theme on entering the Grand Bavaro and it’s beautiful gardens and pools in the centre. Its five tasty restaurants themed from around the globe + a buffet restaurant that catered for all needs. I wanted to arrange a special romantic dinner for my girlfriend and I. A proposal dinner. Our butler’s Eduado and Danilo, made the arrangements for this evening, by adding extra touches to make the event, extra special. But what made it even more magical for me and my then girlfriend and now (fiancé), was the service we received from our butlers Eduardo and Danilo who went above and beyond to making our stay in this beautiful scenic hotel magical. On a daily basis, our butlers would make sure we had what we needed, to make us feel at home. Also the photographer Ruddy Capallum, I would highly recommend into having a professional photo shoot with too . All in all everybody on site including all the waiters and waitresses were very friendly and helpful . Would we come back here again?. MOST DEFINITELY, YES!!!
Lovely hotel, cleanliness all the way, very little English was spoken and language barrier was bad. Americans and English guests were subjected to Spanish entertainment all times, only catered for Spanish guests in our opinion, food was good but sometimes had trouble at restaurants even though they were apparently pre booked by butlers.Regarding butler service we never had a allocated butler but several who did all they could. Nightly shows were badly mimed to and was lucky if they lasted 30 mins. Disappointed and would not return
This was our first time in DR, as well as, first all inclusive. Due to a hurricane we were rebooked to the Iberostar Grand Bavaro and couldn’t have been more pleased. I’m not sure how it would compare to our original hotel, but my wife and I had an exceptional time. Butlers and concierges were extremely helpful with dinner reservations and really anything we needed. The staff worked diligently to restore the beauty that the hurricane ruined and could barely tell a it had passed through just 4 days prior. There was a plethora of food at all times of the day from breakfast buffet, snack bars, dinner restaurants, and room service. We aren’t huge drinkers but no shortage or wine, champagne, and cocktails. We booked an excursion through the hotel and though some say it was “overpriced” due to the hotel getting a cut, I thought $99/person for 5 activities and lunch wasn’t a bad deal. They did try to sell us their program and can honestly say they did a good job at it. However, not for us at the time. Even after declining, they tried to sweeten the deal without being pushy or making us feel uncomfortable. The staff was very friendly and pleasant. Never once did I feel like they were fishing for tips. Overall, we had a fantastic, relaxing, and enjoyable trip. Highly recommend
We came here on our honeymoon. The service, property, and amenities were the best we've ever seen. We will definitely be returning. Justo and Salvador were our butlers and went over and above our expectations, making sure everything was taken care of for us.
