Great experience
We just returned from a 10 day trip to Hanua Kai, at the Hokulani Tower. We stayed on the 6th floor and had a wrap around balcony. We had a perfect trip. The weather was rough the first day but after that it was sunny skies and warm temperatures the entire time we were there. Our room had two large bedrooms and two full baths. We had a washer and dryer in our room which I used every day - this was a massive perk and reduced the amount of clothes we had to bring on the trip. We had groceries delivered to our room before we arrived as we didn't get to the resort until midnight. It was expensive but well worth it as we woke up the next morning and were able to have a full breakfast. The kitchen was great - no issues at all. The condo is very large and gave our kids lots of space to avoid each other when they wanted to. We had two kids in one room and our teen son slept on the pull-out sofa in the living room. My husband and I were in the other room. The views from our balcony were unbelievable; like a picture. There were cherry pickers in the centre courtyard as workers were painting the building and doing some upgrades. You honesty didn't even notice them after a while. No big deal. My kids played soccer in the little field there when they didn't want to swim. The beach is right at the resort and you can rent umbrellas or people would offer you theirs after they were done. My kids swam in the ocean every single day. There are lots of pools as well, and we swam in them every day as well and every night - they had the whole area lit up with tiki lights. It was very relaxing. There are two small stores, one in each tower. Prices are a bit nuts but you are on vacation so you have to expect the pricing will be higher. There is underground parking included in the tower and it's very easy to use; no issues with finding a spot and it's super quick to the elevator and back to your room. The area in general (Kaanapali) is wonderful and I preferred it to Wailea. We went to Wailea one afternoon to check out one of the more expensive resorts and it looked like you had to take a shuttle to the beach. I'm glad we never had to do that. Kaanapali is much more family friendly and relaxed, we liked the vibe there much more than Wailea. This resort is very close to stores and restaurants and walking distance to the Luau we attended near Black Rock beach. There is a really nice walking path along the beach that I walked early every morning that runs along the shore and passes lots of other resorts. Many people going for runs and walks here every day. Everyone is pleasant and in a good mood; we met lots of tourists from the United States and everyone was super friendly. We watched the sunset on the beach every night. My two daughters got stung by a jellyfish one day but it was a fairly quick recovery. The beach area can be rocky so wear water shoes. We bought some at the ABC store down the street. There is a grocery store a 5 minute drive away as well as a Starbucks; you can buy all your groceries there. There is a parking lot with food trucks in it in the other direction, (turn left instead of right out of the resort) very quick drive. We had some amazing Malasadas there one afternoon. There is also a fun breakfast restaurant called Slappy Cakes where the kids make their own pancakes at the table. This was a two minute or less drive from the resort. The resort has 4 bbqs that are free to use down by the pools and we bbq'd a few nights with food we bought at the grocery store which was awesome - we were able to make really good meals and enjoy them on our balcony for a fraction of the cost of going to a restaurant. We had almost zero interaction with the resort staff because we had no issues the entire time we were there so I can't comment on that. The staff at the small stores were friendly. They sell gelato and smoothies downstairs which my kids loved. There are multiple elevators in the building so you can get around very easily and get back to your room within minutes from the beach or the pools. It is also very close to Front Street (maybe a ten minute drive) where there are lots of little shops and restaurants. We really loved the Ululani shaved ice there, which we had almost every day, I may never want shaved ice again as long as I live - and we ate dinner at Kimo's and Down the Hatch, as well as others. You can just walk right into any restaurant or store to shop and it's right on the ocean. There is a restaurant called Dukes at the resort which was pretty good. We ate here a few times. There can be a wait to get in so they text you when your table is ready. There are restaurants at the other resorts along the beach as well - you can easily walk to them by walking along the shoreline path. There were many whales there this time of year and we saw whales constantly from our balcony and from the beach. It was almost unbelievable, they would jump right out of the water. We were told they are common this time of year. Just keep your eyes on the road when driving because they can be a distraction! We had a great trip here. It was a very long journey for us, 12 hours of flying, but we feel it was worth it and we would recommend it. I hope this information is helpful to others.

Honeymoon
We stayed there February 8 through the 15th. We stayed in room 331. We had issues with roaches in our room. We contacted management the second day about the issue. They asked if we were going to be away from the room so they could have their maintenance team look at the room. They sprayed and put out traps. We got back none spotted. The next morning they were running on the counter tops and floor. We asked for another room and none available. We said this was not acceptable. They called a pest control company and they came in and treated the room. That night nothing but the next morning they were running again on the counter tops and floor.. we kept all our food in the refrigerator or on the balcony. There was know compensation for our troubles just I am sorry and will let management know. We will not stay there again.

Lovely grounds and a welcoming staff
This was our third stay at the Honua Kai resort and enjoyed it very much. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the grounds are lovely and the suites well appointed and spacious. Parking is still a bit of a problem, although much improved since the resort has reinstated valet parking. That being said, if you return to the resort after nine in the evening, you'll have to hunt for a parking place on your own, and can expect a long walk to the resort. Our suite had a few minor issues, such as lights not working and an inadequate supply of toilet paper, and when first attempting to run the washer in our suite, we noticed that it was full of mold, but the resort staff was quick to replace the seal and address the issue. Several of the pool area barbecue grills were not functioning, which proved a minor inconvenience, but none of these issues negatively impacted our stay at the resort, and the overall experience was quite lovely. The pool grounds are very nice and we enjoyed our cabana during our stay, although the cost of renting a poolside cabana is very expensive at the resort: $300 per day, plus taxes and a $45 "service fee", so roughly $360 per day. Not sure what the $45 service fee provides, aside from an attendant initially bringing over some plastic cups and a pitcher of water. That was appreciated, but we never saw the attendant again, and had to refill the water container and procure our own towels. $45 for bringing over a pitcher of water once seems exorbitant at best, even in Hawaii. Pool area bathrooms are limited and there can be a wait, especially at the north end of the resort where the bathrooms are often locked. The pool area bathrooms could also use more regular cleaning, but given the number of guests, I could see that being an issue. Overall, the Honua Kai is a lovely resort, especially for families. The grounds and suites are lovely and the staff friendly. The location at the very north end of Kaanapali beach makes for a less crowded beachfront, but a longer walk to snorkeling areas, Whalers Village and other activities, and the location is considerably more windy. Those minor inconveniences aside, the resort provides a lovely experience, and I look forward to visiting again.

Honua Kai 2 bed, 2 bath
This unit was advertised as “new” the couch was new from 2019. The unit needs a lot of TLC, it’s extremely tired and needs repairs. The first thing that was noticed was the mildew around the vent-that was cleaned and maintenance used bleach cleaner to clean the mildew. We were very uncomfortable sitting on the sofa. It was falling apart. Everything felt dirty. The carpet was coming up in the transactions from tile to carpet. No garbage disposal. Very little storage space for groceries in the kitchen and small kitchen area. Positive, the balcony is beautiful. We saw rainbows on the mountain side. It was very windy while we were there. Felt like we were in a wind tunnel. Weren’t able to really utilize the balcony. Ocean view is very small. The resort is beautiful and we enjoyed the beach. Unit was stocked with essentials and had beach chairs and family games. I would not stay here again.

Beautiful but frustrating
A good portion of the hotel is undergoing renovations. We happened to be in a room directly beside some construction. Hammering, sawing, drilling etc all day from 9 am to 5 pm. Hope you don’t want to sleep late or have a nap! The room was very nice. The hotel is lovely (if you don’t mind huge construction equipment parked everywhere). The location is great. Dukes restaurant is incredibly busy- make reservations or be disappointed. The market is overpriced. The hotel staff are very friendly but not very helpful. Want to change rooms? Too bad! Need a late check-out? Nope! All in all I was underwhelmed by our stay here.
