Jogger's Hotel - Oct to Dec 2020
Stayed here on an extended work assignment for several weeks. Now pandemic protocols are in place so the standard hotel accommodations and services are not in place. Now this doesn't mean you going to be isolated. It means close interactions with the staff are minimized...and statewide safety protocols ask that customers do the same. This hotel is right across the street from the airport and can be easily walked. But the hotel has a shuttle van and will gladly pick you up. For me, there are a few minor things that I felt could use improvement. There's plenty of parking but the spaces are a bit tight and cumbersome to pull out of. You'll quickly notice that most large vehicles are backed in. Also, some customers with work vehicles park in the roundabout entrance which makes it difficult to get by. There are just two washers and two dryers...not enough in my opinion. Lastly, this is a nonsmoking hotel...so where do you think the smokers puff away...right next to all the doors. There's a nice outside seating area by the pool..but they smoke there too. By smokers, I mean both customers and staff. I had a one bedroom with a king size bed. All rooms have a small kitchen but no oven. Because of the pandemic, there is no daily housekeeping services. Which means guest leave their trash outside their door. I did have my room cleaned a couple times...not because it was a mess but because the toilet quickly builds up a mildew line. By the time I checked out, the caulking in the shower had several mold stains that had grown (they weren't there when I checked in). Now the staff were awesome and always helpful. But again, pandemic protocols limited what they could and couldn't do to accommodate customers. There's a complimentary breakfast every morning. Tuesday through Thursday there's a complimentary dinner. Right now, they serve you because of the pandemic. There's also a pool, basketball court (half), and small exercise room. Next door is a bowling alley. You're also really close to a sports complex. What I liked best about this location is that the airport provides a great location for jogging. Jogging around the airport is 6.5 miles and can easily be stretched to 7.4 if you detour through the sports complex and the through the general aviation area. Out to the control and back is a little more than a 5K. Overall, I really liked staying here. The hallway carpet is a little worn, but not bad...probably because of limited housekeeping services. I like to see how things are when the pandemic is over. There's all sorts of restaurants nearby and the Cordova mall is right around the corner. This place isn't fancy but it's got what you need and more. If I'm back in the area again, this will be my first choice.

Poor communication
Disliked · We were given 4 emails (2 through booking.com and 2 through Homewood Suites) confirming we were booked. We relied on these emails that we had accommodations. However when we arrived, we were told that the hotel was without power for 4 days and there was nothing they could do. They didn’t call beforehand or email, nor offer to put us in other accommodations even though she said they put their other guests in a hotel across the street. They simply said it wasn’t their fault. We get that this was an unusual situation because of the hurricane but our issue was not that we couldn’t stay, but that they did not communicate properly with us. A hurricane is not their fault but communication is always their responsibility. Our original hotel which was a local hotel (not a national chain) was cancelled and they communicated with us ASAP and that is why we tried to book this hotel. Being a national chain, i think Homewood could do much better than this. We had nowhere to stay, all hotels in the area were already booked, we had to drive an hour back from where we came to hope we got a hotel because they were all booked too. Around 8 pm the hotel finally called me to let me know they were closed. I just feel like under these conditions, if you have 4 days of preparation time then that is adequate to stop taking reservations instead of giving us false hope and not giving us time to book something that might have otherwise been available. In this day and age especially since this is not a local hotel, corporate could have figured this out much sooner and given ample notice that it was not closed. Why send out 4 emails that we are good to go when that was simply not the case??? If you can send emails of confirmation, you can send emails of cancellation. Because of this, i would not rely on booking.com to make reservations and i would probably look elsewhere to stay who might be local so they don’t just pass it off as “oh well”.

A Happy Customer
Participated in and assisted with a conference of about 30 people. The staff was extremely helpful in setting up the conference room to our specifications and then making changes at our request. The suites have full kitchen, full size refrigerator dishes. TV in sitting room and bedroom. Complementary WiFi in rooms and in conference room. A very good experience.

Homewood Suites
Hotel was conveniently located near the airport. It was quiet and comfortable. Complimentary breakfast and complimentary social hour with a selection of food. Comfortable dining area for this type of hotel.

Sloppy check-in resulted in gross overcharge
I was charged full price for a room for which I had an airline voucher. The smiling desk clerk said the imprint they took of my card was for, "Incidentals." That was a lie. So far, Homewood Suites has not reimbursed me for their foul up.
