Booked 2 rooms at this location. Comfortable bed, good hot water & pressure in shower. Room cleaning below average - coffee spilled down back of entrance door near handle - indicating room was not sanitized. Dirty (sticky) bathroom counter, & Pool - dirty. Lobby & elevators were beyond dirty and continually had big puddles of standing water from people who were using the pool. Outside people gathered around their trucks & cars with Alcohol & music blaring from portable & car stereos at night. If your looking for a neighborhood party spot this is it. If your looking for something middle of the road or higher - look elsewhere.
My wife and I are staying at this location for a week. Not real pleased. When we arrived we walked around to check out the facilities. We went out to the pool area and the pool was not clean. Tried to get back inside and the door would not accept our room key. Had to walk around the hotel to get back in. My wife asked the front desk when the pool was going to be cleaned and she was told that it was just cleaned. My wife asked the front desk person, have you checked the pool, no answer. The walls are not very thick or insulated. You can hear normal conversations in the rooms that are next to you.
Horrible experience followed by incorrect billing still not resolved
I have never experienced in my professional career a staff so rude and unprofessional. Left on March 3 after a three night stay and still cannot get help with the billing which I have paid 5 nights not 3. I have called so many times and get run around as I did when I stayed there. If you contact Holiday Inn they state the individual hotel is responsible for billing so I am screwed I guess. Let me add when I arrived the hotel entrance was closed for paving. After I walk across parking lot the desk person Amber so rudely tells me she will let my check in issue slide this time. Not to worry Amber I will never stay at Holiday Inn again so no slide needed. Boss made reservation and did all paperwork in advance. They had no record of it but we do. Next ice machine did not work on second floor, had to go to other floor for ice, then my toilet would not refill with water and I was told no part available in a 88 room hotel then go to Home Depot! For almost two days I lifted the toilet cover and made it refill with water. Next the shower did not drain so each shower i had water half way to my knees. Beds were miserable the mattress are so wore out and overall the hotel is in need of a remodel. Amazing they believe they right not the customer and all of the staff act the same. I have not received any resolution so I am going to post everywhere I can to keep others from this experience.
Room good, staff miserable and unhelpful. Falls short of IHG standards
We stayed a few nights. The building and facilities all work satisfactorily and the hotel is conveniently located, but we found the staff miserable, charmless and unhelpful - like they don't want to be there. That is such a contrast to our usual experience at IHG properties – in fact the reason we consistently use IHG is because we have found their staff so well-trained and consistently excellent. The specifics: we wanted to take the shuttle to TPA to pick up a rental car. We asked what time the next shuttle would be and were told 10.30 am. We saw a van come and go around 10.10 am but thought it couldn't be the hotel's because it was way earlier than we were told. We went back to reception at 10.30 am and after 5 minutes asked the same receptionist about the shuttle. She said the driver was stuck in traffic and anyway I should have put my name down on a sheet. (I had not been told that this was required). So I asked if she was saying it was my fault that we had to wait so long and she said yes it was. Unbelievably rude and poor customer service. Every time we passed reception, the staff avoided eye contact and didn't acknowledge us. They didn't do the usual things like acknowledging Rewards Club membership on check-in or thanking us for our business. Disappointing. At breakfast one morning, there were no Earl Grey tea bags. I asked a staff member if I could have one. I couldn't make out her response but she carried on doing other things and didn't find me a tea bag. Ordinarily, with poor service like this, I would raise it with management at the time but we decided that it wasn't worth taking the risk in case we were treated worse. This is the first time I have stayed at an IHG property that I can't recommend.
A Great Pre-Cruise choice
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa/Rocky Point Island for a one night stay prior to a cruise out of Tampa. They have a shuttle which will pick you up at the airport, you just need to call the front desk and the shuttle is there in 10-15 minutes (the shuttle is free but it’s nice to remember to tip the driver) The staff (Talisha at check-in and Jordan overnight) were fantastic to work with. We arrived at the hotel around 10am due to an early flight. Talisha was great in letting us get one of our two rooms early with a promise to contact us when the second room was ready. She did update us when the room was ready as promised. She and Jordan both had fantastic attitudes and I enjoyed talking with them. We checked into the room (a suite, see my photos) and was very pleased with the layout, presentation and cleanliness. I had a view overlooking the water out back of the hotel which was nice but I suspect a front facing view would be fine as well) Since this was a suite, there was a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker and second sink in the kitchenette area. There was also a separate sitting area with an upholstered chair, couch cocktail table as well as a small table with two chairs. The hotel has an outdoor pool, a fitness room and breakfast area. Breakfast was the usual fare, nicely presented and being refreshed quickly and regularly. The only place I saw to eat nearby was Bahama Breeze which was next door and about a a three minute walk. Just past that there is a small convenience store which had beer, soda as well as a variety of other foods. Pricing there was reasonable considering is was based on convenience and location. The hotel shuttle will also bring you to the cruise ships. There is a $10 per person charge for this. Since there were three of us and we wanted to be at the ship early, it made more sense to use Lyft (which was cheaper than three people on the shuttle) I would strongly recommend the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa/Rocky Point Island and will use them in the future.
