My Birthday Getaway
I arrived at the hotel on Friday, August 5, 2022. There was no one greeting me with coconut drink, water, nor champagne as was listed as a welcome feature. Check in was good however I was a little put off that they do not accept American Express only Visa and Masrercard. That information should have been stated on website in my opinion. The room was very nice. I stayed in 6412. I had a swim out suite. I also had a personal concierge. Her name is IBeth!! She is the BEST! Always accommodating, professional, knowledgeable and looking to help. This hotel is really not catered to singles or solo travelers. It is primarily for couples. I had a very bad experience at the Driftwood restaurant. I came in by myself got sitted and was given a menu. Two different Caucasian couples came in after me, they both were seated, given menus and a waiter showed up to both tables. I got up and went to another restaurant as I was livid. I later informed IBeth about my experience as I didn't know if the reason for the neglect was because I was single or black. Either way I let her know I was not happy with how I was treated. She said she would pass it on to the restaurant manager. The hotel knew this was my birthday trip and I was a little disappointed that no one offered me another for the bad treatment....not a free facial, massage or any any other spa treatment. Additionally no one from management called to apologize either. This was not a free trip for me, and I didn't pay money to be mistreated and disrespected. Furthermore, if you don't like grasshoppers, crickets or praying mantis this would not be the ideal spot for you as these creatures are all over the premises. The food was okay, not really spicy as I thought Mexican food would be as I have had better food when I stayed at Secrets The Vine in Cancun. The resort for the most part is rather boring so if you are just looking for a place to relax you are in the right place. All in all I would give the place 3 1/2 stars and IBeth 5 stars. As there is much improvement needed to make ALL and every guest feel welcomed and appreciated.
Girls trip of a life time!
This was my first trip to Mexico and let me tell you, this resort is amazing! Six of us were celebrating our 50th birthdays and from the moment we stepped out of the van we were welcomed like true VIP's. Carlos at reception quickly took care of all six of us and we were quickly transported to our incredible first floor swim out rooms! Th swim up bar was yards away from our terrace. The room was spacious and well stocked. If you need anything extra just leave a note and they will take care of it for you. Hennry and Jesus were our bartenders at the swim up bar during our stay. They were absolutely fantastic and handled the crowds with ease!!! We enjoyed the Jesus special-- so yummy! Pedro set up our Bali beds and beach chairs daily and made sure we had everything we needed. Miriam and Albert from the entertainment crew made our stay so very memorable! They went out of their way to get all guests involved. They both were amazing!! The foam party was the absolute best! We enjoyed Dorado Casa Italian restaurant and Klay Talay but all the food was good. For lunch we ordered room service and had it delivered to our swim out terrace. One suggestion is to call for room service vs using the App as there were some glitches with it. We were completely pampered the whole time. Thank you to all of the hard working staff to make this a trip of a life time.
Honeymoon stay 1st-8th August
I’m home now, and can honestly say it was probably my best holiday experience ever. The staff were amazing, the room (2706, beachfront view with garden) was phenomenal, and the restaurants and bars were great. The wildlife blew my mind (in water and land) and the food was some of the best I’ve had. We will be back. Oh, and the booze was, well the booze was booze! I can’t describe in words just how fantastic this honeymoon was…. ☝🏿 or maybe I just did!
Great Staff here
Everyone here is very friendly, willing to help at all times. We particularly enjoyed our time during the afternoon where Miriam and Elber were awesome for our entire trip. Coordinating different games/events during the day and keeping everyone engaged throughout. They bring the entire community of travelers together and always remember everyones names and where they're from. They even tried to come in early to see us out after our stay (we left earlier than anticipated), but we gained way more friends than we ever anticipated with the interactions coordinated by this duo. Will return next summer for sure!
Not what it used to be
This review is written with a heavy heart. This was our 6th trip to this hotel. It was always our favourite place in the world, but sadly, this time, we were disappointed. El Dorado Seaside Suites (Palms side) had always been focussed on couples and creating a relaxed, romantic, up-market experience. Sadly, not this time. The Anniversary Package of a free candle-lit meal on the beach had gone. The sparkling wine and fruit in the room for returning visitors had gone. Even the towel sculptures had gone. The service is ok, whereas it used to be exceptional. The staff are a lot younger and, frankly, don't care as much as the 'old-school' staff. When you meet an older staff member that has been there for a long time (like Gilbert) you notice the stark difference in how attentive they are and how they go out of their way to ensure you are happy. This biggest thing, however, is the deviation from this being a couples holiday. Karisma now permit large, very noisy, groups. Trying to have a quiet meal is impossible when sitting near a table of 20 drunk Americans shouting and swearing. Our meal was ruined on more than one occasion due to this. Also, the quiet pool areas are not quiet anymore as these groups take over here as well -when you don't mind the building and maintenance noise, but this really grinds your gears, then something is wrong! Food is, as ever, wonderful. Restaurants now need to be pre-booked (COVID rules to control capacity, we presume) which is fine but the whole restaurant experience now can often be loud and unpleasant for reasons mentioned previously. TUI and Karisma need to decide who their target market is now. Do they want to attract groups of partygoers from over the border on a cheap jaunt, or do they want the market they used to have of couples looking for relaxation, luxury and a bit of romance? Sorry guys but it can't be both! One of us cried when we left this time because we knew we'd hesitate to book again. We don't want just ok, we want El Dorado's former glory
