70’s vibe in Hollywood with a lot of noise
The hotel is a cute 70’s vibe hotel but nothing particularly special about it. The reason for 3stars is because our 7night stay was extremely noisy. The noise was not from other guests but just hotel noise. It sounded like a bowling ball rolling over and over or furniture being moved and I’m not sure but suspect it was elevator noise. After a couple of days I did talk to the front desk about the noise. They had no other rooms to offer us but did call later to offer a white noise machine. I thanked them but declined because we aren’t use to sleeping with one and honestly it would not have been able to cover up the noise we were constantly hearing. We were in room 459 in Portolo. I suggest for week long travelers you not place them in this room because that is a long time to deal with the noise. The hotel offering the trolley to Universal was nice and we took advantage of that two days. The beds were comfortable but with the noise there isn’t much sleeping going on. For the nightly rate and additional fees totaling up to approximately $500 a night I expect luxury and this is not.

Definitely a place to relax
As soon as we arrived we were welcomed with open doors (literally). The check-in process was quick and easy. Our room was a bit smaller than we are use to but it was nice and the bed was comfy. The shower head was relaxing and so was the balcony. There was a discrepancy between what the hotel offered and what Expedia advertised about there being a microwave in our room. A microwave would be an extra charge but they waived it without me asking. The hotel felt like a mini-retreat with a pool, lobby bar, restaurant, store, and plenty of space to just hang out with a fireplace. I was caught off by the amount we paid for the valley parking we assumed it was $39 a night which is understandable but when we checked out we noticed a bunch of taxes added on that were not explained to us in detail when we checked in. However, we would definitely come back and recommend this location.

The Garland Hotel
From beginning to end; top notch services, elegant communal areas, impressive designs with a classy 70’s feel. As if that was not enough, after our greeting staff valeted our vehicle and immediately took our belongings to our room, we were directed to the bar area where we met ANTHONY, JIMMY, and ADRIAN. These folks are bar masters! Everything from their recommendations for dinning to making the most incredible drinks, using what must be their “mixology” training, exceeded expectations. Adrian’s friendly persona and engaging personality made us immediately feel at home even though this was our first visit and we are typically very critical of new places. We are definitely already making plans to come back with friends and family, maybe even our business colleagues. In sum, easily 5-Stars. (Someone give these guys a raise!)

Fabulous
Fabulous hotel, very friendly. Clean and smart rooms. We had a balcony which was lovely to have fresh air as opposed to using the air con in the room. Empty fridge for your own items. Ideal location for Universal Studios Hollywood, with the hotel supplying a free shuttle on the hour.

Loved staying here
The Garland is a charming boutique hotel. Loved the 60s vibe. The room was beautifully decorated and more importantly clean and comfortable. Ate a few times at their restaurant The Front Yard. The food was very good, and the staff was friendly and accommodating our birthday celebration. I will certainly stay there again. E
